Editorial Redlist #2

Mise-en-scène

In this issue of Redlist we have traveled to Fire Island, to visit the place that was a reference for many artists in their search for some utopias. In the past, many artists traveled here in search of utopias and to discover new aesthetics and new narratives about their personal relationships outside the rules of the society of their time.

Today the social meaning of Fire Island has changed as has society, and today these beaches on the coast of New York are not the same places of liberation as they were when some artists went there to discover new aesthetics and new narratives about their personal lives. in their relationships of love, friendship or desire outside the judgments and restrictions of their society.

We spent a few days on Fire Island looking for references to create a staging of images about the relationship between utopia and my photography. I took some classic Fire Island images as a reference and adapted them to my own work and reality. Photographs are never faithful records of a reality, but they are representations that allow us to dream of some type of utopia and ask ourselves if utopias are true.
